Wily was born Taylor Tuli Wily on June 14, 1968, in Honolulu. He rose to fame on the sumo circuit in the late 1980s, competing under the name Teila Tuli and reaching the rank of yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo. In 1998, he retired from sumo and began his acting career.

Wily's acting credits include memorable roles in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Ghost Whisperer," and "NCIS." He was best known for his recurring role as Kamekona Tupuola on the CBS reboot of "Hawaii Five-0," where he played a friendly ice cream truck driver and confidential informant.
