Aegon III Targaryen: A Life Marked by Tragedy and Triumph
Early Life and Succession
Aegon III Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Younger, was born in 136 AC. He was the son of King Viserys I Targaryen and his second wife, Alicent Hightower. Aegon had two half-sisters, Rhaenyra and Laena, and one full brother, Aemond.
The Dance of the Dragons
In 129 AC, King Viserys I died, sparking a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The war was fought between Aegon II Targaryen, Rhaenyra's son, and Aegon III Targaryen, Viserys's son. The war ended with the deaths of both Aegon II and Rhaenyra, leaving Aegon III as the undisputed heir to the Iron Throne.
Reign and Legacy
Aegon III Targaryen ascended to the throne at the age of 11. He was crowned in 131 AC and reigned for 28 years. During his reign, Aegon III rebuilt Westeros after the devastation of the Dance of the Dragons. He also established a new order of knights, the Kingsguard, to protect the royal family.
Aegon III Targaryen died in 159 AC at the age of 44. He was succeeded by his son, Daeron I Targaryen.
